The International Crimes Tribunal-1 (ICT-1) will announce the date for pronouncing the verdict in the crimes against humanity cases against ousted Prime minister Sheikh Hasina, former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, and another accused on November 13.
The order came Thursday morning after both prosecution and defence concluded their closing arguments before the three-member tribunal headed by Justice Md Golam Mortuza Majumder, with members Justice Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice Kamrul Hossain Mollah.
During the final day of arguments, Attorney General Md Asaduzzaman said the crimes committed were systematic and deliberate, involving the use of state apparatus against civilians.
He said the circumstantial and documentary evidence “clearly establishes the accused’s involvement,” adding that justice must serve both the victims and the accused.
Quoting global examples of war crimes trials, the Attorney General said, “If such crimes go unpunished, future generations will face the same atrocities again.”
In his rebuttal, Chief Prosecutor Mohammad Tajul Islam said the International Crimes (Tribunals) Act was framed to address offences like genocide and crimes against humanity in line with international standards.
He asserted that the prosecution presented “crystal-clear evidence,” including live witnesses and digital proof demonstrating the accused’s direct role in mass killings and violence.
