Hundreds of people staged a demonstration in Farmgate area of the capital on Friday, demanding declaration of Noakhali district as a division. The protest took place during the signing ceremony of the July Charter around 5pm.
The demonstrators under the banner of “Greater Noakhali Residents” carried placards and chanted slogans during their demonstration. Police set up barricades in front of the signing event venue to control the gathering and maintain security.
No untoward incidents were reported, but the demonstrators vowed to continue their movement until their demand is met.
