The Ministry of Law has temporarily dismissed former Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) of Dhaka, Rezaul Karim Chowdhury, following allegations of corruption and abuse of power.
A notification was issued on September 29, under the President’s order, announcing his dismissal. The matter came to light on Monday.
The notification says that Rezaul Karim Chowdhury, who is currently posted at the Ministry of Law, has been named in a case filed under the Supreme Judicial Service’s discipline regulations for misconduct. In light of the gravity of the allegations, the authorities deemed his temporary dismissal appropriate.
In consultation with the Supreme Court, Rezaul Karim Chowdhury has been dismissed temporarily as per Rule 11 of the Supreme Judicial Service’s Discipline Regulations-2017. The order is effective immediately.
It is noteworthy that while serving as the CMM of Dhaka, Rezaul Karim Chowdhury faced accusations of corruption and power abuse, which were reported in a private television channel’s investigative piece on the matter.
