Bangladesh’s interim administration has commended leaderships in India and Pakistan for agreeing to a ceasefire with immediate effect and to engage in talks to end military tension between the two South Asian nations.

“I most sincerely commend Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi of India and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif of Pakistan for agreeing to a ceasefire with immediate effect and to engage in talks,” Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus, in a statement said on Saturday.

The chief adviser also expressed deep appreciation to President Trump and Secretary of State Marko Rubio for their effective mediation, according to a statement issued by the Chief Adviser’s press wing.

“Bangladesh will continue to support our two neighbours to resolve differences through diplomacy,” the statement readds.

The deal is expected to bring a swift end to weeks of escalating clashes, including missile and drone strikes, triggered by the massacre of tourists by gunmen last month that India blames on Pakistan, which denies the charge.

Dozens of civilians have been killed on both sides since then.
