Seven parties, including Jamaat-e-Islami and Islamic Andolon Bangladesh, are set to return to the streets after the Hindu community’s Durga Puja festival, demanding five key points, including the National Parliamentary Election through the PR system and the implementation of the July Charter.
Jamaat-e-Islami and Islamic Andolon Bangladesh have announced that they will declare their next course of action in a press conference tomorrow, Tuesday (September 30).
Multiple sources have indicated that between tomorrow, Tuesday, and Wednesday, five other parties—Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis, Bangladesh Nizam-e-Islam Party, Khelafat Majlis, Bangladesh Khelafat Movement, and National Democratic Party (JAGPA)—will also announce their own programs.
It was revealed that a special meeting of these parties was held on Sunday (September 29) night, where decisions were made regarding the second phase of the program.
Gazzi Ataur Rahman, Senior Joint Secretary General of Islamic Andolon Bangladesh, told TIMES of Bangladesh that the next program will be announced on Tuesday. He clarified that there will be no activities during the Hindu community’s Puja festival.
However, several sources from the parties mentioned that after the press conference, the leaders will carry out campaigns to create public opinion in support of their demands. The programs will begin after the Puja festival.
The parties’ demands include holding the next parliamentary elections based on the July National Charter, introducing the PR system, ensuring equal opportunities for all parties participating in the elections, visible trials for the fascist government’s atrocities, mass killings, and corruption, and banning the activities of the autocratic-aligned Jatiya Party and the 14-party alliance.
Earlier, to demand these points, the seven parties held protests and rallies in Dhaka on September 18 and in all divisional cities of the country on September 19.
