For more than two weeks now, residents in Kazipara have been suffering a lot. A major drainage development project beneath the Metro Station has transformed the once-busy road into a dangerous construction zone.

Instead of a smooth passage, residents now face trenches, heaps of soil and scattered rubble that make even the simplest daily movements a struggle.

Children heading to school are forced to tiptoe across uneven ground, while rickshaws and other vehicles often get stuck, creating long traffic jams. What used to be a normal commute has become a test of patience and balance, leaving students, officegoers and shopkeepers frustrated and exhausted.

The problems don’t end there. Massive RCC pipes, left carelessly along Aksa Road, have blocked natural water flow. As a result, stagnant pools of dirty water have formed, growing larger with every rainfall. Mixed with mud and construction waste, these pools have created a foul-smelling swamp that not only adds to the misery but also threatens public health.

For local shopkeepers, sales have plummeted as customers avoid the chaotic streets. For families, simply stepping outside has become risky. And for schoolchildren, reaching class now feels like crossing an obstacle course.

Residents say development is necessary, but not at the cost of their safety and sanity. As the days pass, frustration continues to mount.

Kazipara’s people are waiting for relief, hoping that the project is completed quickly, so their neighbourhood can return to some sense of order, safety and normal life.
