Hours after Home Adviser announced an action, a three-member inquiry committee formed to investigate the departure of former President Md Abdul Hamid to Bangkok. Additional inspector general (admin) of police will head the inquiry committee.
The Superintendent of Police (SP) of Kishoreganj has also been withdrawn in an instant action.
Earlier, an additional superintendent of the immigration police was removed from duty over allegations of negligence.
The investigating officer of the related case filed at Kishoreganj Sadar Police Station and a Special Branch (SB) officer have likewise been suspended.
Airport officials confirmed the former President left Dhaka for Bangkok on Thai Airways flight TG-340. Abdul Hamid was accompanied by one of his sons and a son-in-law.
In response, leaders and activists of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement staged a sit-in protest in front of the Dinajpur Deputy Commissioner’s office while Home Affairs Adviser Lieutenant General (retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury was in a meeting.
Later, the home affairs adviser met with the protest leaders and assured that action would be taken against those responsible. He further pledged to resign if he failed to deliver justice in the matter.
A murder case was filed against former President Abdul Hamid on January 14 at Kishoreganj Sadar Police Station. It also names former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Sheikh Rehana, Sajeeb Wazed Joy, Saima Wazed Putul, and Obaidul Quader.
