Following their Asia Cup victory over Afghanistan, Bangladesh have overtaken their rivals in the ICC T20I rankings. According to the latest rankings released on Wednesday, 17 September 2025, the Tigers are now ninth.
Both Bangladesh and Afghanistan have rating points of 222, but Bangladesh hold a slight fractional advantage, allowing Litton Das’ side to move up a place. Consequently, Afghanistan drop to tenth.
The positions of other teams in the rankings remain unchanged. Pakistan are seventh with 232 points, while India continue to lead the table with 271 points.
Bangladesh had slipped in the rankings after losing a three-match series against the United Arab Emirates in May. However, successive victories against Sri Lanka, Pakistan and the Netherlands, combined with wins over Hong Kong and Afghanistan in the Asia Cup, have gradually improved the Tigers’ standing.
In head-to-head records, Afghanistan still hold a slight edge. Of the 13 matches played between the two sides, Bangladesh have won six, while Afghanistan have claimed seven victories.
