Three police officials, including the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kalabagan Police Station in Dhaka, have been withdrawn following allegations of a midnight raid, attempted extortion, and looting at a residential property in the capital.
The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) confirmed the removal of OC Moktar Hossain and Sub-Inspectors Belal Ahmed and Abdul Mannan. DMP’s Media and Public Relations chief Mohammad Talebur Rahman said, an inquiry committee has been formed to investigate the incident.
The move follows a written complaint filed by Dr Abdul Wadud, a prominent academic and the proponent of the “Fikamli Theory,” who submitted CCTV footage along with his allegations to the DMP Commissioner.
According to Dr Wadud, around 1:30 a.m. on April 29, a group of 15–20 individuals led by the three officers forcibly entered his residence on Sonargaon Road under the pretext of searching for illegal weapons. When he called the national emergency number (999), patrol units from other police stations, including Shahbagh, responded. However, OC Moktar allegedly instructed them to leave the scene.
Dr Wadud also claims that one elderly tenant and the building’s night guard were taken into police custody for questioning. Officers then allegedly attempted to break into the third floor of his building, causing panic among neighbours.
Despite initially agreeing to accompany police to the station, Dr Wadud alleges that upon opening the door, he was dragged back inside by SI Belal and SI Mannan, aggressively interrogated about firearms, and threatened with multiple fabricated cases unless he paid Tk 1 crore Eventually, he handed over Tk 2 lac under pressure, with a promise to pay the rest during banking hours. Three plainclothes officers, identifying themselves as members of the Detective Branch, reportedly remained in his home until then.
Dr Wadud further claimed that the incident resulted in the death of a pregnant deer from his licensed mini-zoo due to trauma-induced bleeding, while several rare and valuable exotic birds were allegedly stolen. The police also reportedly took away his computer, laptop, and CCTV hard drives.
DMP officials have confirmed that CCTV footage is being reviewed and a full investigation into the incident is underway.
