Police have yet to arrest any suspects involved in the attack on a police vehicle in Gazipur’s Sripur, which led to the escape of Suman, an accused in an arms case.

Three police officers were injured during the attack when miscreants freed Suman, who was facing charges in an arms-related case. A case is being processed at the local police station in connection with the incident.

Sripur Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge (OC), Abdul Barik, stated that the police are working diligently to apprehend the suspects. “We are utilizing advanced technology to track down the assailants,” Barik said. “The investigation is ongoing, and those responsible for the attack will be arrested.”

When asked why no action was taken by the police during the attack or to defend themselves, OC Barik did not provide a direct response, citing a busy schedule.

Gazipur Police Superintendent Dr. Chowdhury Mohammad Jaber Sadeq addressed the incident, confirming that the police are in the process of filing a case against those responsible for the attack. “We did not expect such an incident to happen in this location,” he said. “A thorough investigation is underway, and if any officers are found at fault, strict action will be taken.”

Regarding reports that members of the NCP may have been involved in the attack, Sadeq stated, “We are aware of the information, and we are taking the necessary steps accordingly.”

NCP member suspended over alleged involvement in attack

Abdullah Al Mahmud, the central joint chief organiser and Gazipur regional supervisor of NCP, confirmed that Khokon, a member of NCP, has had his membership temporarily suspended due to his alleged involvement in the attack. “We are conducting an internal investigation against Khokon Sheikh and his brother Rajib Sheikh, who are reportedly linked to the NCP and have connections to terrorist activities,” Mahmud said.

He further criticised the police for their inaction during the attack, pointing out that the police’s failure to respond has angered the public. “The police’s mysterious role in this incident has raised questions among the people,” he added.

Local sources revealed that the escapee, Suman Sheikh, 32, is from Pathantek village in Barami Union, Sripur. His brothers, Khokon and Rajib Sheikh, are reportedly linked to the NCP and have affiliations with Jamaat-e-Islami.
