A new international film award, the ‘July Memorial Prize’, has been announced at the Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) in South Korea.
The award will be presented for the first time at the festival’s 30th edition, taking place from September 19 to 25. The Ministry of Cultural Affairs announced the initiative in a press release on Tuesday (19 August).
The prize will be awarded to one film competing in the Vision Asia section of the festival, under the patronage of the Ministry. It will recognise a film that addresses themes such as social justice, freedom of speech and expression, civil rights, or the fight against inequality.
The winning director will receive the award on the festival’s closing day. The prize has been established to commemorate the July Uprising.
