Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), the student wing of BNP, took a unique approach for the upcoming Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) election by allowing its leaders to apply independently, instead of submitting a full panel of candidates.

This strategic decision comes as the deadline for collecting nomination forms approached its final day Monday, with several prominent leaders eyeing key positions.

On Monday, three prominent Chhatra Dal leaders collected forms for the Vice President (VP) post, while leaving their panel details yet to be finalised.

Among those applying were Dhaka University unit Joint General Secretary BM Kausar, Abidul Islam Khan, and the central committee’s Joint General Secretary Mominul Islam Jisan, all vying for the influential position of VP.

Speaking after collecting the forms, Abidul explained that their panel was still under discussion. “Our leader Tarique Rahman has instructed us to collect the forms, and he will decide on the final positions we contest,” he said, hinting at an internal decision-making process.

In addition, Jasimuddin Hall unit Convener Tanvir Bari Hamim submitted his nomination for General Secretary. DU unit Information and Research Secretary Zarif Rahman also collected a form, but his intended post remains unspecified.

Despite the delay in finalising the panel, the move has sparked curiosity among student activists, who are eager to see how Chhatra Dal, a key player in the upcoming election, will shape its strategy ahead of the September 9th vote.

While other student organisations, including Chhatra Shibir, have already presented complete line-ups, Chhatra Dal’s approach leaves room for flexibility and suggests a strategic wait for final decisions from its leadership.
