Sumaiya Zafrin, wife of detained army officer Major Sadik, has been taken into custody by the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police in connection with an alleged secret meeting involving expelled leaders and activists of Awami League.
She was detained on Wednesday evening and brought to the DB office on Minto Road, confirmed DMP spokesperson Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Talebur Rahman.
According to police, Sumaiya and her husband allegedly participated in a covert training session held on July 8 at the KB Convention Center near Bashundhara Residential Area in the capital. The session reportedly included retired government officials, former leaders of the Awami League, and activists of its student wing, Bangladesh Chhatra League.
A case was filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act at Vatara Police Station on July 13. So far, 22 individuals have been arrested in connection with the case and remain in jail.
Earlier, on July 17, Major Sadik was detained from his Uttara residence and placed under military custody. The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) confirmed the detention on August 1, saying that an internal court of inquiry has been formed to conduct a thorough investigation.
According to ISPR, initial findings support the allegations, and appropriate disciplinary action will be taken against the officer under military law following the full investigation.
