Police have arrested Sumaiya Jafrin, the wife of army officer Major Sadique, accused of providing guerrilla training to Awami League leaders and activists, whose political activities have been banned by the interim government.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s (DMP) Detective Branch (DB) arrested her on Wednesday afternoon, DMP Joint Commissioner (DB) Nasirul Islam confirmed this information.
He said, “We arrested her from the Pallabi area and took her into custody. However, the information that she works in the police is not correct. We are interrogating her initially about the training.”
“As the web of conspiracy is deep, the DB has detained Sumaiya for questioning. She will be questioned on various issues there. Necessary action will be taken after this,” he added.
Nasirul Islam said, “Guerrilla training was given to Awami League leaders and activists at the Bashundhara Convention Hall in the 300-foot area of the capital in the name of a social event. Major Sadique of the army gave this training.”
A case has been filed under a special law on charges of conspiracy against the country. Initially, 22 people were arrested in that case.
According to the information given by them, two more were arrested. According to their confessions, 16 more leaders and activists were arrested.’
Regarding Major Sadique, the ISPR earlier informed that an investigation committee has been formed against the accused army officer. That committee is working on his case. If his involvement is proven, he will be tried under the army law.
