Bangladesh Reconditioned Vehicles Importers and Dealers Association (BARVIDA) on Friday organised a tree-planting drive to enhance urban greenery and uphold its environmental commitment.
Held at the United Medical College premises along Madani Avenue, the event saw hundreds of fruit, medicinal, and timber seedlings planted around the campus and adjacent roads. Several rare and endangered species were also included as part of a planned afforestation effort.
The initiative received technical support from Torupallob, an environment-focused organisation. General Secretary Mokarram Hossain led the planting on behalf of Torupallob.
Participating from BARVIDA were President Abdul Haque, Secretary General Reaz Rahman, Joint Secretary General Syed Jaglul Hossain, and Organising Secretary Zobaer Rahman. Planning and Development Secretary S M Monsurul Kabir (Linkon) and Cultural Secretary Md Golam Rabbani (Shanto) were also present.
Representatives from United Medical College and United Group joined the event. Executive members Punom Sharmin Jhilimol, Benzir Ahmed, and Md Humayun Kabir Bhuiyan, along with general members, also took part in the activity.
BARVIDA highlighted its four-decade-long role in importing environmentally friendly reconditioned vehicles using advanced Japanese technology and reaffirmed its efforts like the plantation drive to contribute to carbon sequestration and biodiversity restoration in urban areas.
