The immigration department of Malaysia has detained 171 foreigners, including Bangladeshi nationals, during a raid in Jalan Masjid India area in Kuala Lumpur for various immigration rules violations.
However, the exact number of Bangladeshis detained has not been disclosed.
According to a report by Malaysia’s news agency Bernama, during a one-hour raid, began at 12pm on Tuesday local time, immigration authorities examined the documents of 758 foreign nationals.
Of these, 171 individuals were detained for various immigration violations, including lack of identification, violating visa conditions. The detainees are hailing from India, Bangladesh and Indonesia, aged between 20 and 50.
Basri Othman, director of the Immigration Enforcement Department, confirmed that the detainees have been transferred to the Millenium temporary immigration depot in Beranang, Selangor for further legal proceedings.
Othman also stated that foreign nationals found without valid permits will be allowed to return to their home countries under Malaysia’s ongoing Pulang Rahmah Migran (PRM) programme, which facilitates the voluntary return of migrants.
The immigration raid is part of Malaysia’s ongoing efforts to regulate undocumented immigrants and enforce immigration laws in the country.
