The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) announced on Tuesday that it will organise a short workshop in August aimed at educating national team cricketers on their responsibilities and conduct, following recent controversies involving pacer Taskin Ahmed.
The decision comes in the wake of a General Diary (GD) filed against Taskin at Mirpur Model Police Station on Monday. The complaint, lodged by one Sifatur Rahman Sourave, accuses the cricket star of assault and issuing threats. Officer-in-Charge Sajjadur Rahman confirmed the GD and said police are currently investigating the matter.
According to the OC, the incident allegedly took place on Sunday night in front of Sony Cinema Hall. “Taskin allegedly called Sifatur to the location, punched him, and issued threats,” he said, citing the details of the GD.
Taskin, when contacted by *Cricbuzz*, denied the allegations, stating: “I can only say that the allegations are false and fabricated.”
BCB media committee chairman Iftekhar Ahmed told the website that the board cannot take any action against the pacer while the matter remains under investigation.
“Let Taskin be proven guilty first. There has been a case and it will be followed by an investigation. It is beyond the cricket board now. Taskin says that he is not involved in it. Now police will investigate it as there has been a GD. There will be an outcome and let’s wait for that,” he said.
Ahmed further stated that the upcoming workshop is intended to remind players of their responsibilities, both on and off the field.
“We are planning to hold a short workshop with national cricketers in August as we feel we must remind them what they can do and what they cannot, considering they are not only cricketers but also idols of many youngsters and are being followed by them, so they have some accountability towards their fans,” he added.
