A man was brutally hacked to death in the capital’s Gendaria in what police have said was an act of revenge.
The victim, Ariful Islam Babu (35), was attacked with sharp weapons by several individuals, according to the police.
In-charge of the Dhaka Medical Police Camp Inspector Mohammad Faruk confirmed the death and stated that Babu had suffered injuries to his head, hands, and legs from a sharp weapon.
The incident occurred early on Sunday, at around 5:30am near the Doyaganj railway line at the base of a building in the Koloswala area. Ariful was left severely injured after being attacked with a machete, which left him with severe wounds to his head, hands, and legs.
His relatives rushed him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead at 8am.
Ariful’s wife, Ayesha Akhtar, stated that, on the morning of the incident, she was informed that local residents Robin, Shaheen, Masud, and Kader had attacked her husband with a machete, leaving him in a pool of blood.
Inspector Faruk confirmed that Ariful’s body has been sent to the morgue for an autopsy.
