The BNP will hold a central rally in Dhaka on Saturday to mark 7 November, National Revolution and Solidarity Day, with party chairman and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman scheduled to inaugurate the programme.
The rally will begin in front of the BNP’s central office in Nayapaltan, party Acting Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said on Friday.
Before the rally, Tarique Rahman will visit the graves of former president Ziaur Rahman and former prime minister Khaleda Zia at 8:30am. He will offer Fateha and pay tribute alongside senior party leaders.
Briefing reporters at the party’s central office on preparations for the day, Rizvi said the rally would begin following the prime minister’s inaugural address.
The procession will start from Nayapaltan, turn right near the Chief Justice’s residence and proceed through Hotel InterContinental, Banglamotor and Farmgate before ending at Manik Mia Avenue.
The BNP has announced a seven-day programme to observe National Revolution and Solidarity Day. As part of the programme, rallies will be held in most districts and metropolitan cities across the country on Saturday.
The Chattogram city rally was held on Thursday, which Rizvi said he attended. Some other areas may also hold rallies on Friday.
Different BNP-affiliated and associate organisations will organise discussions, photo exhibitions and poster displays as part of the observance.
Rizvi said other political parties, cultural organisations and professional groups had also planned programmes to mark the day. The 12-party alliance will also hold separate programmes.
Highlighting the significance of 7 November, Rizvi said the day had opened the way for democratic practices, freedom of speech and freedom of expression.
He claimed that whenever attempts had been made to establish one-party rule or authoritarian governance in the country, the spirit of day had inspired people to resist.
He also linked the spirit of the day to the anti-Ershad movement and the July 2024 mass uprising.
Rizvi said the Sheikh Hasina government had stopped the state-level observance of 7 November during its tenure.
This year, the day will once again be observed nationally by the government after a long gap, he said, adding that the occasion had generated interest among BNP leaders and activists as well as the general public.
