A 23-year-old man was stabbed to death by his younger brother during a fight at their home in the capital’s Shantibagh area on Thursday evening.
The victim was identified as Saiful Islam Saif. He was taken to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) in critical condition, where doctors declared him dead at around 7pm.
The incident took place on the ninth floor of a 24-storey building at House No. 187 in Shantibagh, under Shahjahanpur Police Station.
According to their father, Sirajul Islam, he was on the rooftop in the evening while his two sons and their mother were inside the flat. An argument broke out between the brothers and escalated into a physical fight. During the altercation, Saif’s 17-year-old younger brother, Saim, stabbed him below the neck.
Family members rescued Saif and rushed him to DMCH, where doctors examined him and pronounced him dead.
Md Habibur Rahman, inspector and in-charge of the DMCH police camp, said, citing doctors, that the body had been kept at the hospital morgue for an autopsy. Officers from Shahjahanpur Police Station are investigating the incident.
Relatives said Saif was the elder of the two brothers. He had completed his master’s degree from a private university and was undergoing private pilot training. Preparations were also under way for him to travel to Australia.
