Pupil School Bus Ltd has won the Seoul Smart City Prize for its technology-driven student transport service, earning recognition among more than 200 projects worldwide.
The company received the award and a commemorative trophy at a ceremony during Smart Life Week at the COEX Convention Center in Seoul, South Korea.
Founded by CEO Md Abdur Rashid Sohag, the company uses Internet of Things (IoT) technology to operate a student ride-sharing platform with journey tracking, real-time monitoring and safety features.
Parents and schools can track students’ journeys, while shared transport aims to improve vehicle efficiency and reduce the environmental impact of school commutes.
The international jury particularly recognised the platform’s application of IoT technology to student transportation.
The award could open opportunities for international partnerships and expansion.
According to the World Smart Sustainable Cities Organization (WeGO), winning projects can receive international promotion, capacity-building support and access to cooperation programmes organised by the Seoul Metropolitan Government.
Established jointly by the Seoul Metropolitan Government and WeGO in September 2022, the prize promotes inclusive, people-centred urban development and seeks to bridge the global digital divide.
Its two categories – Tech-Innovacity and Human-Centricity – recognise technological innovation and people-centred solutions that improve urban life, particularly for underserved communities, children, older people and persons with disabilities.
