A Dhaka court on Wednesday placed Ishrat Jahan Pallbi, 46, general secretary of activity-banned Nilphamari district unit of Jubo Mahila League, on a four-day remand in a case filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act with Gulshan Police Station.
Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Jashita Islam passed the order following a seven-day remand petition submitted by the investigating officer.
State counsel Muhammad Shamsuddoha Suman confirmed the court order.
Earlier, case investigating officer Sub-Inspector Md Ruhul Amin produced Pallabi before the court and prayed for a seven-day remand.
Police had detained her at the airport on Tuesday upon her return from China.
During the proceedings, state lawyers argued in favour of granting the remand, while defence counsel submitted a petition seeking the cancellation of the remand.
After hearing arguments from both sides, the court granted a four-day remand.
According to the case document, 80 to 100 unidentified leaders and activists, including those from the activity-banned Awami League and its banned affiliate organisations, gathered on the paved road in front of KFC Restaurant at Gulshan-1 around 11:45am on 11 September with the intention of conducting anti-state activities and disrupting law and order.
The accused allegedly exploded crude bombs at the scene to instil panic among the public, disrupt normal life, and commit acts of sabotage by chanting anti-state slogans and causing disorder.
Facing a police operation, the accused dispersed and fled the scene.
Police subsequently recovered unexploded crude bombs and evidence of bomb-making materials from the spot, and a case was filed.
In the remand prayer, the investigating officer added that a seven-day interrogation in custody was necessary to ensure a proper investigation, unearth the core mystery behind the incident, identify and arrest the main plotters, and apprehend other absconding accused involved in the crime.
