Children affected by the war in Gaza will receive medical support through a fundraising campaign led by Bangladesh footballer Hamza Choudhury.

The Sheffield United midfielder announced on Facebook that the campaign had raised more than £100,000 to help children in need of urgent treatment.

“Alhamdulillah, we have managed to raise over £100,000 for the children of Gaza,” Hamza wrote.

The Bangladesh international organised the fundraising event with support from Nujum Sports.

The money will go to Children Not Numbers, an organisation working to help children affected by the conflict in Gaza.

Hamza said the funds would support the medical evacuation of children who urgently need treatment outside the war affected area.

He explained that many children have little hope of survival without access to proper medical care.

The midfielder also said the campaign was only a small step towards helping those suffering in Gaza.

He expressed his gratitude to everyone involved and said every effort could make a difference, no matter how small.

Hamza ended his post with a prayer for the people of Palestine. He asked for an end to their suffering and wished them strength, patience and lasting peace.

Meanwhile, Hamza is expected to arrive in Dhaka on November 8 or 9 to join Bangladesh for the SAFF Championship.

The tournament will begin on November 5, but Hamza will miss Bangladesh’s opening match against Bhutan because of his club commitments.
