The District Detective Branch (DB) of police has uncovered an illegal arms-manufacturing factory in Sonaimuri upazila of Noakhali.
A man was arrested during the operation, and police seized a locally made gun, weapon parts and equipment.
The arrested man was identified as Md Saiful Islam, alias Shaker Hossain, 30, son of late Mumin Ullah of Deoti village in the upazila.
Police arrested him during a raid at the outhouse of Akram Uddin Haji Bari in Deoti union on Wednesday night, according to a DB press release issued on Thursday morning.
Acting on a tip-off, police seized a single-barrel gun, gun butts, iron gun parts, three pairs of pliers, a grinding machine with wire, three files, an iron trigger, a bolt and eight small and large pieces of stainless steel parts.
Noakhali Additional Superintendent of Police (Admin and Finance) Abu Tayeb Md Arif Hossain said the man admitted during initial questioning that he had been secretly making local weapons for a long time.
He added that the process of filing a case against the arrestee under the Arms Act at Sonaimuri Police Station was under way.
