An intimate video featuring Abdul Aziz, the Member of Parliament for Natore-4 and Senior Vice-President of Natore District BNP, has circulated on social media, sparking widespread controversy and discussion.
In response, Natore District BNP has constituted an investigation committee to verify the authenticity of the video, while Gurudaspur Upazila BNP has claimed that the clip was generated using Artificial Intelligence (AI).
The video surfaced on Wednesday morning, following the arrest of the lawmaker’s eldest son, Nuruzzaman Mintu, in connection with a case over the hacking to death of Shakil, Member Secretary of Gurudaspur Pourashava Chhatra Dal.
Police detained Mintu on Monday, formally showed him arrested on Tuesday afternoon, and a court subsequently granted a three-day remand for his interrogation.
Upazila BNP Claims Video is AI-Generated
Denouncing the video as fake, Gurudaspur Upazila BNP held a press conference on Wednesday afternoon at its party office in the Nayabazar area under Dharabarisha Union.
Reading out a written statement, former organisational secretary of Upazila BNP Mohammad Ali claimed that the clip was circulated from a Facebook account under the name ‘Ashfaq Ahmed’ to personally humiliate MP Abdul Aziz.
The video, running for nearly nine minutes on Facebook, reportedly shows MP Abdul Aziz engaging in an intimate video call conversation with a woman, containing sensitive dialogue regarding sexual relations.
Mohammad Ali noted that a woman’s voice is audible in the recording and reiterated the claim that it was created using AI technology.
Expressing strong protest over the dissemination of the video, Mohammad Ali stated that Upazila BNP is preparing to file a case under the Information Technology Act against those responsible for sharing it.
More than 100 leaders and activists from the upazila and union units of the BNP attended the press conference.
The authenticity of the video could not be independently verified, and comments from MP Abdul Aziz were not immediately available.
Party Investigation and Constitutional Action
Natore District BNP Member Secretary Asaduzzaman Asad stated that the video relating to Abdul Aziz’s alleged moral degradation has come to the party’s attention and an inquiry is currently underway.
He added that an emergency meeting of the district BNP has been convened for coming Friday, where organizational action will be taken in accordance with the party constitution if the video is proven authentic.
Tensions and Vandalism Following Leader’s Murder
Meanwhile, local sources in Jubo Dal and Chhatra Dal revealed that MP Aziz’s son, Mintu, was expelled from his position as Joint Secretary of Jubo Dal on Tuesday over his alleged involvement in the murder of Chhatra Dal leader Shakil.
At around 10pm on Tuesday, Shakil’s second janaza was held at the Shahid Shamsuzzoha College grounds in Gurudaspur.
Following the funeral, a shopping mall belonging to Russell, a US-based expatriate and close associate of Mintu, was vandalised and looted.
No police case has been registered regarding the incident.
