An Indian air ambulance carrying a patient from Agartala to Kolkata made an emergency landing at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on Sunday after its door reportedly opened mid-flight due to a mechanical fault.
The aircraft took off from Agartala at around 12:40pm, carrying the patient and six other people, including two crew members, a doctor, a paramedic and two attendants, according to airport sources.
During the flight, the air ambulance’s door opened, prompting the pilot to contact the control tower at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.
With assistance from the control tower and airport authorities, the aircraft landed safely in Dhaka.
Following the landing, the patient was taken to Kurmitola Multicare Specialised Hospital with assistance from the Indian High Commission and airport authorities.
After examining the patient, doctors at the hospital declared the patient dead.
