Violent clashes, fires and looting disrupted demonstrations across France on Saturday as hundreds of thousands of people took to the streets to protest rising living costs and poor conditions in schools, reports AP.

In Paris, clashes between demonstrators and riot police continued into the evening, with officers using tear gas and water cannon to disperse crowds.

Buildings were set on fire in the capital and other cities. In Limoges, a major blaze at the town hall caused part of the roof to collapse.
