BNP has formed a national committee to ensure security during Sharodiya Durga Puja and instructed its leaders and activists at the district level to maintain communication with puja celebration committees, the party’s acting secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said.

He made the remarks as the chief guest at an event on Saturday morning during a visit to a puja mandap at Mirpur Central Temple, where he exchanged greetings with members of the Hindu community.

Rizvi said Prime Minister and BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman had issued necessary instructions to the administration and party leaders and activists to ensure security during Durga Puja.

The party is keeping track of security arrangements at every puja mandap and temple. The government is also working to ensure security through the administration, he said.

He further said the Durga Puja holiday had been extended to five days this year. The government’s rice allocation for each puja mandap had also been increased from 500 kilograms to 600 kilograms.

Describing Durga Puja as a festival for all, the BNP leader said that although people may have different religious identities, festivals foster a sense of brotherhood among them. He added the central message of festivals was to build harmony by overcoming all forms of division.
