Remittance inflows to Bangladesh rose 13.1% year-on-year to $10.11 billion in the first three and a half months of the current fiscal year, crossing the $10 billion mark as overseas earnings continued to support the country’s foreign exchange reserves.

The country received $10.11 billion between 1 July and 14 October of fiscal year 2026–27, up from $8.94 billion during the corresponding period a year earlier, according to Bangladesh Bank data.

Remittances also maintained their upward trend in October, rising about 12.2 per cent to $1.516 billion in the first 14 days of the month, compared with $1.351 billion during the same period in October 2025.

On 14 October alone, expatriate Bangladeshis sent home $111 million through remittance channels, central bank data showed.

Financial analysts and central bank officials attributed the sustained growth to increased overseas employment, stable exchange rate mechanisms and a growing preference among expatriates for formal banking channels over informal routes.

The steady inflow of foreign currency is providing crucial support to Bangladesh’s foreign exchange reserves and broader macroeconomic stability.
