The International Crimes Tribunal-2 has fixed 26 October for the hearing on contempt of court allegations against two Supreme Court lawyers over comments posted on Facebook regarding a tribunal verdict.
The two lawyers, Hasanuzzaman Tushar and Mohammad Hasan Chowdhury, appeared before ICT-2 in response to a summons.
However, the hearing could not take place on Wednesday due to the illness of one of the tribunal judges, leading the court to reschedule the date.
Senior lawyer Munsurul Hoque Chowdhury represented the two Supreme Court lawyers during the proceedings.
Earlier, on 16 September, the tribunal directed the two lawyers to appear on 23 September to explain the contempt allegations following a petition filed by the prosecution.
Prosecutor Gazi MH Tamim said the prosecution brought contempt charges against the two for making comments against a verdict delivered by the tribunal.
The allegations stem from online remarks regarding the 15 September judgment in which ICT-2 sentenced the death penalty to seven individuals, including Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader, for crimes against humanity committed during July uprising.
The six other convicts sentenced to death were former Awami League joint general secretary AFM Bahauddin Nasim, then state minister for Information Mohammad Ali Arafat, Jubo League President Sheikh Fazle Shams Parash, Jubo League General Secretary Mainul Hossain Khan Nikhil, Chhatra League President Saddam Hussain, and Chhatra League General Secretary Sheikh Wali Asif Enan.
All seven are currently absconding.
In the same judgment, the tribunal ordered the confiscation of half of all movable and immovable properties belonging to Nasim, Arafat, Parash, and Nikhil.
