National University (NU) Vice-Chancellor Professor ASM Amanullah has called for building safer and more supportive campuses for female students. He said adequate safe spaces for female students have not yet been created in society.
The vice-chancellor made these remarks in the “National University Inter-College Cultural and Debate Competition 2026” held at Habiganj Government Women’s College on Monday.
He noted that many girls drop out before reaching higher education due to child marriage, violence, and various social barriers. To alter this situation, educational institutions, as well as families and society, must take responsibility.
The vice-chancellor said nationwide cultural and sports competitions are being continued as part of implementing the government’s “Learning with Happiness” programme.
The core premise of this programme is to create opportunities for students to receive education in an enjoyable, humane, and safe environment.
He emphasised that beyond classroom studies, students must be developed into confident and skilled individuals through cultural activities, debate, sports, and creative endeavours.
The vice-chancellor further stressed the need to involve female students more in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) education, linking learning with the demands of future workplaces and industries.
He announced that initiatives have been taken to introduce major changes to National University’s curriculum starting from 2028 to strengthen the connection between education and the job market, adding that female students must be equally involved in this transformation.
Highlighting the learning environment in NU-affiliated colleges, he said that an atmosphere must be created where students learn with joy, find opportunities to flourish their talent, and prepare to face future challenges.
He remarked that events like cultural and debate competitions play a vital role in developing leadership, logical reasoning, creativity, and patriotism among students.
