A spraying drive using water mixed with larvicide tablets has commenced in Jhalakathi as part of an integrated cleanliness programme to prevent dengue and other mosquito-borne diseases.
Concerned authorities stated that this activity will be conducted regularly across various drains and stagnant water bodies in the town.
On Thursday morning, Deputy Commissioner Md Momin Uddin officially inaugurated the campaign in the Kathpatti area of Jhalakathi town.
Superintendent of Police Marine Sultana, Jhalakathi Municipality Administrator Julia Sukaina, Civil Surgeon Dr Mohammad Humayun Kabir, Jhalakathi Press Club President Advocate Akkas Sikder, and Assistant General Secretary Alok Saha were present at the launch, alongside officials from the municipality and the Civil Surgeon’s office.
Speaking at the inauguration, officials emphasised that rather than relying solely on medical treatment, taking effective measures to destroy mosquito breeding grounds is essential to prevent dengue and other vector-borne illnesses.
To achieve this, alongside intensifying cleanliness drives across different areas of the town, water mixed with larvicide tablets will be sprayed in drains, gutters, and various locations where water has accumulated.
Officials noted that public awareness is vital alongside government initiatives to curb dengue.
They urged everyone to remain vigilant so that clean water does not collect in house yards, rooftops, balconies, or surrounding areas, as Aedes mosquitoes breed in stagnant clean water.
Citizens were also called upon to maintain cleanliness in their homes and surroundings while adhering to the health department’s advisories for dengue prevention.
