Singer Dinat Jahan Munni has received a special honour from FOBANA in New York in recognition of her contribution to Bangladesh’s music scene and her commitment to the country. She received the honour on September 4.
Munni said the recognition would remain a cherished memory throughout her life.
“As an artist and as a Bangladeshi, this honour will remain something I remember with respect for the rest of my life. I am sincerely grateful to and filled with love for those who honoured me. I will continue working for the welfare of the country throughout my life. At the same time, I will remain dedicated to Bangladesh’s music scene. I seek everyone’s prayers and love,” she said.
Among the popular film songs in Munni’s voice are O Priyo Ami Tomar Hote Chai, Sob Kotha Bole Na Hridoy, Bhalobashay Buk Bhasaiya, Mon Chay Mon Chay and Ek Cup Cha.
Most recently, Munni lent her voice to a song from the film Rongona, starring Shabnur. The song was written by Kabir Bakul and composed by Imran Mahmudul.
After a break, Munni has also recorded another song for a new film while living in the United States. Directed by Gazi Rakayet, Manushtike Dekh features her song Bhalobashi Bhalobashi. Kabir Bakul wrote and composed the song.
Meanwhile, Munni has taken the initiative to promote songs rooted in Bangladesh among children of Bangladeshi families living in the United States who are interested in learning and performing music. Several students are already learning songs from her.
For those who cannot speak standard Bangla, she is also arranging opportunities to learn the language through the Bangladesh Institute of Performing Arts (BIPA).
