Jamaat‑e‑Islami alleged cocktails exploded during its procession in Feni on Friday evening, held to welcome the 11‑party alliance’s Dhaka–Chattogram long march.
The incident occurred in Dhalia Union of Feni Sadar Upazila while the procession was underway. The party claimed cocktails went off during the rally, but the perpetrators were not immediately identified.
In a statement signed by Feni Sadar Upazila Jamaat Ameer Maulana Naderuzzaman and Secretary Muhammad Shihab Uddin, the leaders said such attacks by miscreants during a peaceful procession were alarming. They stressed that terrorist acts are unacceptable in political programmes.
The statement added that everyone has the right to carry out political activities peacefully, and any attempt to spread fear or destabilise the political environment must be resisted.
It demanded that those involved be swiftly identified, brought under the law, and given exemplary punishment. The leaders also urged the administration to take necessary security measures to prevent similar incidents in future.
Jamaat leaders further called on activists and residents of Dhalia Union and Feni Sadar Upazila to remain calm and not respond to provocations.
Feni District Jamaat ameer Maulana Mufti Abdul Hannan said cocktails were exploded during the evening procession to create panic. “Everyone knows who is currently active in the field,” he said, adding that the matter had already been reported to the police administration.
Sajal Kanti Das, inspector (investigation) of Feni Model Police Station, said law enforcers were instructed to look into the matter but had not yet received detailed information.
Meanwhile, around midnight Friday, the publicity department of District Jamaat alleged cocktails were being exploded targeting the homes of activists who had joined the evening procession, leaving party members concerned.
