A prisoner named Babul Hossain, 45, died in Dhaka Central Jail at Keraniganj on Thursday morning.
Around 10am, prison guards took him to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Md Faruk, in‑charge of the Dhaka Medical police camp, confirmed the death, saying the body has been kept at the morgue for autopsy.
The jail sources said Babul was an accused in a narcotics case filed with Jatrabari Police Station. He was from Monoharpur under Kotwali Police Station in Jashore.
