The College of Nursing at International University of Business Agriculture and Technology (IUBAT) has signed three agreements with Unico Hospitals PLC to expand clinical training, internships and healthcare services for the university community. The agreements, signed on Aug 31, will give IUBAT nursing students supervised clinical placements and eligible graduates six-month internships at Unico Hospital, according to a press release.
The partnership also provides IUBAT students, alumni, teachers, employees and eligible dependents access to selected healthcare services at Unico Hospital with applicable corporate discounts. The services include medical consultations, annual health examinations and emergency medical care, subject to the terms of the agreement.
The three agreements comprise a Memorandum of Understanding for Clinical Placement, an MoU on Internship and a Service Agreement. Under the Clinical Placement MoU, students enrolled in IUBAT’s four-year Bachelor in Nursing programme will undertake supervised clinical rotations at Unico Hospital in areas including Medicine, Surgery, Pediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Community Health and other appropriate specialties in line with applicable academic and professional standards of the Bangladesh Nursing and Midwifery Council.
The clinical placements are intended to strengthen students’ practical competencies through hands-on exposure to patient care, ward management, clinical procedures, communication and professional ethics in a hospital environment.
Under the Internship MoU, eligible graduates of IUBAT’s Bachelor in Nursing programme will receive six months of structured professional and clinical experience at Unico Hospital. Successful interns will receive an official Internship Completion Certificate from Unico Hospitals PLC.
The agreements were signed for IUBAT by Professor Dr Abdur Rab, Vice-Chancellor, and for Unico Hospitals PLC by Ardra Kurien, Chief Executive Officer, in the presence of representatives from both institutions.
Speaking at the signing, Rab said the partnership was an important step in connecting academic learning with professional healthcare practice. He said clinical exposure and structured internships were essential to preparing competent, ethical and confident nursing professionals, while the collaboration would also extend healthcare benefits to the wider IUBAT community.
Kurien expressed optimism about the partnership and its potential contribution to developing future healthcare professionals.
The collaboration is intended to strengthen industry-academia links, experiential nursing education, professional development and healthcare services. IUBAT said the clinical placements and structured internships would give students and graduates greater opportunities to translate academic knowledge into practical skills and professional competencies.
The partnership is also expected to contribute to developing a skilled, compassionate and professionally prepared nursing workforce while strengthening links between nursing education and the healthcare sector.
