National University Vice-Chancellor Professor ASM Amanullah on Tuesday paid a courtesy call on Philippine Ambassador to Bangladesh, Nina P Cainglet, at Philippine Embassy in the diplomatic area of Gulshan’s Baridhara in Dhaka.
During the meeting, which was held in a cordial atmosphere, both sides discussed various aspects of improving the quality of higher education, research, and institutional cooperation between Bangladesh and the Philippines.
They also emphasised expanding quality, technical, and technology-based education, as well as developing a skilled human resource pool in healthcare sector.
The discussions highlighted potential collaboration between National University and top-tier Philippine universities, particularly University of the Philippines, in technical, healthcare, and tourism education.
To enhance the skills of Bangladeshi students, the possibility of engaging them with Philippine healthcare professionals and creating training opportunities for nursing assistants was also discussed.
Ambassador Cainglet assured cooperation in introducing bilateral exchange programmes for National University teachers, researchers, and students.
She also promised to expand scholarship opportunities for meritorious students to pursue higher education in the Philippines.
Both sides agreed to launch joint training and technical skill development programmes at National University, leveraging long-standing experience of the Philippines in healthcare, nursing assistant, ICT, and tourism sectors.
During the meeting, Vice-Chancellor Amanullah briefed the Philippine Ambassador on the ongoing reform activities and academic plans of National University.
“In this era of globalisation, the exchange of experience and knowledge of the renowned universities of the Philippines will play a helpful role in elevating our students to international standards,” Amanullah said.
The Philippine Ambassador praised the extensive academic network of National University and its role in expanding education across the country.
She also expressed a firm commitment that the Philippine government would remain supportive of any form of educational cooperation.
The meeting was attended by National University International Desk Director Raj Bin Kashem along with officials from various departments and senior representatives of the Philippine Embassy.
At the conclusion of the discussions, both sides presented commemorative mementos to each other.
