The verdict in the Anti‑Corruption Commission (ACC) case over unauthorised construction of Rana Plaza in Savar has been deferred once more.
The case was removed from Tuesday’s verdict list, and a new date was set for further arguments.
Dhaka Divisional Special Judge BM Tarikul Kabir had scheduled the verdict for Tuesday but withdrew it on his own initiative, fixing 6 October for additional hearings.
Court bench assistant Ariful Islam confirmed the development, saying the judge acted on his own motion, not on any party’s application.
The defendants include Rana Plaza owner Sohel Rana, former Savar mayor Refat Ullah, former chief executive officer Uttam Kumar Ray, executive engineer Rafiqul Islam, former assistant engineer Mahbubur Rahman, former sub‑assistant engineer Rakibul Hasan Russell, former town planner Farzana Islam, and license inspector Md Abdul Mottalib.
Rana is on bail in this case but remains in jail in the Rana Plaza murder case. He was produced in court on Tuesday from the prison.
Mahbubur and Farzana have been absconding since the start of proceedings, while the other accused appeared on bail.
During the trial, Rana’s father Abdul Khalek and mother Morzina Khatun Begum died, and were later discharged from the case.
On 24 April 2013, Rana Plaza collapsed near Savar bus stand, killing 1,136 people and injuring more than 1,500.
