Serena and Venus Williams will play together again at the US Open after receiving a wild card for the women’s doubles event.
The sisters will return to a tournament where they have already won two doubles titles.
Serena returned to tennis this summer after spending four years away from the sport.
The sisters had planned to play doubles at Wimbledon. However, Serena withdrew after suffering a knee injury during her singles campaign.
They later reunited at the Cincinnati Open but lost in the first round.
Serena and Venus have a strong record together at the US Open.
They won the women’s doubles title in 1999 and 2009. They have won 27 of their 34 matches across nine appearances at the tournament.
Their previous US Open doubles appearance came in 2022. They lost in the first round in what was then expected to be Serena’s final appearance at Flushing Meadows.
Serena, now 44, has already played at this year’s US Open.
She partnered Carlos Alcaraz in mixed doubles. The pair won their opening match before losing in the quarterfinals.
Venus, 46, will also compete in the women’s singles event.
Serena has decided not to play singles this year. She has instead accepted wild cards for the women’s doubles and mixed doubles events.
The younger Williams sister won six of her 23 Grand Slam singles titles at the US Open.
Serena and Venus have also enjoyed huge success as a doubles team throughout their careers.
They have won 14 Grand Slam doubles titles together.
The sisters also won Olympic doubles gold medals in 2000, 2008 and 2012. They jointly held the women’s doubles world No. 1 ranking for eight weeks.
One of their strongest periods came between 2009 and 2010.
They won the Australian Open and Wimbledon in 2009 before claiming their second US Open doubles title later that year.
They then won another Australian Open title in 2010 before lifting the French Open trophy.
That run meant the sisters held all four Grand Slam doubles titles at the same time.
They will now get another chance to compete together on one of tennis’s biggest stages.
The first round of the US Open women’s doubles competition will begin on September 3.
