A Bangladeshi marine engineer remains missing after the Panama-flagged cargo ship “MV Ocean Winner” sank in the Bay of Bengal near the Indian coast, leaving his family in extreme anxiety and despair.
Md Abdullah Al Mamun, resident of Amtola area in Ward-1 of Satkhira municipality, is the son of Abdur Rahim.
According to his elder brother, Abdullah Al Baki, the family has yet to receive any official update on Mamun’s whereabouts.
“We are not receiving any updates from any side. We are waiting for the Indian Coast Guard to post updates or conduct a briefing on their page,” Baki said.
He added that the family last spoke with Mamun on Wednesday.
The family was informed about the shipwreck around noon Saturday through acquaintances. However, they have received no specific information about Mamun’s current location or condition, heightening their distress.
Shahadat Al Kabiju, a close childhood friend of Mamun, expressed deep concern over his disappearance.
“He is a very close friend of mine; we grew up together. We have not received any updates on his disappearance, and we are extremely worried,” Kabiju said.
Satkhira Deputy Commissioner Kawsar Aziz said she was actively looking into the matter.
“I have heard about the incident, and I am seeking information and coordinating with the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment, as well as the Ministry of Shipping,” she said.
