An inmate named Rajon, 35, died at Dhaka Central Jail in Keraniganj on Monday afternoon.
He was taken to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital in an unconscious state around 4:30pm, where doctors declared him dead after examination.
Inspector Md Faruk, in-charge of the Dhaka Medical Police Camp, said jail guards took Rajon to the hospital after he fell ill inside the prison. However, doctors declared him dead following necessary checks.
The body has been kept at the hospital morgue for post-mortem examination.
According to jail sources, Rajon’s father was the late Nurul Islam and his prisoner number was 9230/A. The case in which he had been detained could not be known immediately.
