Selina Sultana, daughter of murdered couple Abdus Sattar and Suraiya Begum, filed a case at Kotwali Police Station in Sylhet on Friday night over the killing of her parents and their teenage house help.
In the FIR, she said her father, mother and the house help were killed by hired men in a planned way over a land dispute. She did not mention Babul Miah, though police detained him on 12 August.
Kotwali Police Station Officer‑in‑Charge Khan Md Moynul Zakir confirmed they had received the written complaint. “We have received it, we will investigate with priority,” he said.
Selina stated that she and her father leased about 12 decimals of land in Rikabibazar in 1997 from the Police Line Lusai Church Association and built a house there.
In 2006, Advocate Sirajul Islam of Impulse Builders bought 80 decimals, including their portion. Sattar filed a case in 2016, which is now pending at a local court.
Selina said they had received threats to withdraw the case.
In 2023, Sirajul filed another case against Selina’s father and others, which is also pending. On 29 January 2025, Sirajul and others went to Sattar’s house and threatened him, leading to a general diary.
On 18 May 2025, Sirajul allegedly assaulted Muhammad Tohidul Islam in front of Sylhet court. Tohidul later filed another case in connection with the assault.
Selina also said that on 28 July 2025 her father’s lawyer was threatened in court, and on 30 July her father himself was threatened again. She alleged the murders were carried out to protect the deed of 80 decimals.
On 12 August, attackers entered House No. 111 in Raynagar and killed Sattar, his wife and house help Tahmina Begum. Documents, copies of the GD and deeds were also taken from the house, according to the FIR.
Sirajul could not be reached for comment regarding the allegations.
OC Zakir said Babul confessed during interrogation, so they will investigate why his name was not in the FIR and his role in the murders.
On 12 August, police recovered the slit‑throat bodies of Sattar, Suraiya and Tahmina. Babul, of Raynagar Rajbari area, was detained that afternoon. On 13 August, he was shown arrested under Section 54 and sent to jail.
