Bangladesh have secured direct qualification for the 2027 ODI World Cup. As of now, they are finishing among the top eight teams in the ICC ODI rankings before the cut-off.
The top eight ranked teams on September 30, excluding hosts South Africa and Zimbabwe, will qualify directly for the tournament. Bangladesh will be joined by defending champions Australia, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, England and Afghanistan in the direct qualification spots. South Africa and Zimbabwe will also feature automatically as co-hosts.
Afghanistan secured their place in the top eight following their thrilling victory over Ireland in Belfast.
The biggest name missing from the direct qualification list is West Indies. The two-time ODI World Cup champions are currently ranked 10th and cannot climb into the top eight even if they win both of their remaining ODIs against India before the cut-off date.
As a result, West Indies will have to compete in the World Cup Qualifier in February next year for a place in the 2027 tournament.
West Indies also failed to qualify directly for the 2023 World Cup. They finished fifth in the Super Six stage of the Qualifier, missing the tournament for the first time in their history. Their absence from the 2023 World Cup also meant they missed the 2025 Champions Trophy, a competition they had not missed since 2013.
The 2027 World Cup Qualifier will feature eight teams. They will include West Indies and Ireland, the two lowest-ranked non-host Full Members, along with the top four teams from the Cricket World Cup League 2 and the top four teams from the Qualifier Playoff.
The Qualifier winner will advance directly to the second round of the World Cup. The teams finishing second, third and fourth will enter the Super Series, with the winner securing the remaining place in the second round.
The 2027 ODI World Cup will be hosted by South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia.
