Bangladesh Border Guard (BGB) thwarted an attempt to push nine women into Bangladesh through the Bhaigarh border in Birampur upazila of Dinajpur.
Indian Border Security Force (BSF) tried to forcibly push the women across into Bangladesh early Saturday.
However, the attempt failed due to resistance from BGB personnel and local villagers, and the women were taken back inside Indian territory.
BGB’s Ghasuria Border Outpost (BOP) Company Commander T Alam said the incident occurred around 4:30am near pillar-291, area 20‑S of the Bhaigarh border in Birampur. The push‑in attempt was made from the direction of India’s Sri Rampur area.
After the incident, border patrols were intensified on both sides, he said adding that around 7:30am, BSF presence increased across the border, creating tension for a short time, though the situation remained under control
Locals said they woke up to the sound of BGB whistles early in the morning and rushed to the spot, where they saw nine women trying to enter Bangladesh. Villagers, together with BGB members, resisted the attempt.
Commander T Alam further said that BGB patrols have been strengthened to ensure no Indian nationals can illegally enter Bangladesh through the border.
