Music, poetry and emotion came together in Chattogram on Friday evening as a special cultural programme celebrated the timeless legacy of Rabindranath Tagore through songs, storytelling and literary reflections.
Titled With Tagore: A Musical Evening of Rabindra Sangeet, the event was held at 7PM at the auditorium of Alliance Française de Chittagong.
The programme featured performances by Miskatul Mumtaz Mumu, Chairperson and Assistant Professor of the Department of Music at the University of Chittagong.
More than a musical performance, the evening offered audiences an immersive journey into Tagore’s creative world.
Before each song, Mumu introduced its literary background and cultural significance through narration and recitation, providing deeper insight into the poet’s music, philosophy and artistic vision.
The repertoire explored themes of love, nature, separation, human relationships, spirituality, hope and self-discovery, reflecting the richness and diversity of Tagore’s musical legacy.
Together, the performances captured the beauty of changing seasons, the complexity of human emotions and the enduring wisdom woven into his works.
According to the organisers, although Tagore composed these songs more than a century ago, they continue to resonate with audiences today.
His music remains a powerful expression of love, loss, hope and the search for meaning, connecting generations through shared human experiences.
The evening marked Miskatul Mumtaz Mumu’s third solo presentation of Rabindra Sangeet.
She was accompanied by Shusanta Kar Chowdhury on tabla, Rezaul Karim Rezu on esraj, Kanchan Das on keyboard, Sujan Das on flute, Salauddin Md Rubayed on percussion and Shyamol Chandra Das on violin.
As the programme concluded, audiences left with more than memories of Tagore’s songs.
The evening became a celebration of his enduring literary and musical legacy, reaffirming how his words and melodies continue to inspire people across generations.
