Karnaphuli Fertilizer Company Limited (KAFCO) will supply 30,000 tonnes of bagged granular urea fertiliser to Bangladesh at a cost of Tk132.63 crore for the 2026-27 fiscal year.
The Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase on Thursday recommended approval of the Industries Ministry’s proposal to purchase the first lot of urea from the local fertiliser producer.
The approved price is $357.25 per tonne, with KAFCO selected as the supplier.
The procurement is part of the government’s fertiliser purchase plan to ensure adequate supply of agricultural inputs during the upcoming fiscal year.
The committee approved the proposal at its 34th meeting of 2026, where four procurement proposals were discussed, including one from the Energy and Mineral Resources Division, one from the Industries Ministry and two from the Agriculture Ministry.
