Five more children have died with measles and measles-like symptoms across the country in the past 24 hours, taking the death toll from the ongoing outbreak to 758 since 15 March, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
Of the latest deaths, four were suspected measles cases while one was a confirmed case, said a health bulletin issued by the Health Services Division’s Integrated Control Centre.
Dhaka division reported the highest number of deaths during the period, with two suspected deaths and one confirmed death.
The country recorded 879 new suspected measles cases and 90 confirmed cases in the last 24 hours, the bulletin said.
Since 15 March, Bangladesh has reported 1,11,480 suspected measles cases and 13,500 confirmed cases as of 12 July, according to DGHS data.
Among the 758 deaths recorded during the period, 664 were classified as suspected measles-related deaths and 94 were confirmed cases.
The health authorities said 90,605 patients have recovered and been discharged from hospitals since 15 March, while the total number of hospital admissions during the period stands at 94,340.
Dhaka division continues to account for the highest number of infections, with 50,590 suspected cases and 8,725 confirmed cases reported so far.
