President Mohammed Shahabuddin on Friday stressed the need for transforming the country’s vast population into human resources to fulfil the aspirations of the new generation and ensure a prosperous future.
In a message issued on the eve of World Population Day 2026, he mentioned that youth comprise one-third of Bangladesh’s population, serving as the nation’s primary driving force.
He said the new generation expects the state to meet their basic needs and provide opportunities for both personal and collective advancement.
The President highlighted this year’s theme, “Realising the hopes and aspirations of young people – Today and for the future,” describing it as timely and appropriate for the current context.
According to the president, the government is committed to developing the youth into educated, skilled, self-reliant, and morally upright citizens. To achieve this, plans are being implemented to make the national education system more modern, work-oriented, and production-oriented.
Special priority is being given to technical and vocational training, as well as digital technology and innovation, to foster creativity and leadership among the youth.
The president further mentioned that the government is working to prevent social decay –including drug abuse, child marriage, and violence – through widespread awareness, the expansion of social security programmes, and the strict application of the law.
He emphasised that public health and planned families are essential prerequisites for a healthy nation and sustainable socio-economic development. In this regard, the government has launched comprehensive programmes to improve the health sector.
President Shahabuddin urged all stakeholders, including families, educational institutions, and non-governmental organisations, to support the government’s efforts in youth development.
He called for the effective and universal delivery of health and family planning services, focusing on maternal, child, reproductive, and adolescent health.
The president concluded his message by wishing for the success of all programmes organised on World Population Day 2026.
