The Ministry of Home Affairs has dismissed four police officers from service after allegations of unauthorised absence, misconduct and desertion were proved against them.
The officers had remained absent from their workplaces for long periods after initially taking authorised leave.
The Discipline-2 branch of the Ministry of Home Affairs issued four separate notifications in this regard on Thursday. The dismissal orders took immediate effect following approval from the president.
The dismissed officers are Additional Superintendent of Police Jewel Chakma, Additional Superintendent of Police Mishu Biswas, Assistant Superintendent of Police Afzalun Nesa and Assistant Superintendent of Police Md Mahmudul Hasan.
According to the notifications, departmental proceedings were conducted under the Government Servants (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 2018.
The major penalty of dismissal was imposed after reviewing investigation reports, replies to show-cause notices where applicable, the gravity of the offences and the opinion of the Bangladesh Public Service Commission.
Afzalun Nessa, an officer of the 35th BCS police batch, attended an orientation course in 2017 but did not join the basic training course. She also failed to return to duty after the end of her six-month maternity leave.
Although she was later nominated to attend basic training with the 36th BCS batch, she did not appear for the course and remained absent for a long time.
Mishu Biswas took 10 days’ leave in 2024 to take part in the ‘Ironman 70.3’ international sporting competition in Malaysia. However, he did not return to duty after the leave period ended and remained absent without permission.
The ministry said he also failed to respond to repeated notices sent to his permanent address.
Jewel Chakma did not return to his workplace at RAB-14 after his leave ended in April 2025. Following a long period of unauthorised absence, a departmental case was filed against him.
The charges of misconduct and desertion were later proved, leading to his dismissal from service.
Assistant Superintendent of Police Mohammad Mahmudul Hasan, while serving as a police telecom officer at Rajarbagh, travelled to Saudi Arabia on 28 August 2024 after taking 15 days’ leave to perform Umrah. However, he did not return to his workplace after the leave period ended.
Despite being served multiple show-cause notices, he failed to provide any response. Following a departmental investigation, the allegations of misconduct and desertion brought against him were proven, leading to his dismissal from service.
