Four more children have died from measles or measles-like symptoms in the past 24 hours, according to a notification published by the Directorate General of Health Services on Monday.
Of the deceased, measles was confirmed in one child, while the other three exhibited measles-like symptoms. The deaths were recorded between 8 am Sunday and 8 am Monday.
During the same period, measles-like symptoms were detected in an additional 972 children across the country, while testing confirmed measles in another 64 children. The total number of new infections in the past 24 hours stands at 1,036.
According to the health directorate, from March 15 until now, 563 children have died with measles-like symptoms. An additional 93 children have died after being diagnosed with measles, bringing the total number of fatalities to 656.
The directorate’s data shows that 86,923 children have exhibited measles-like symptoms since March 15. Of them, 71,467 have been hospitalised. After treatment, 67,878 children have recovered and returned home.
In the last 24 hours alone, 888 measles-infected individuals have been hospitalised across the country, while 1,037 patients have recovered and been discharged.
